Agartala, Sept. 18: Police have arrested a schoolteacher, Madhuram Tripura, from Tuikumba village under South Tripura?s Sabroom subdivision on charges of beating up a class VI student and his father on suspicion of sorcery. Two other accused are absconding.

Rabidhan Tripura, father of the student, Hemanta Tripura, lodged a complaint with Manu Bazar police station yesterday. He accused Madhuram, another teacher Sudhanya Tripura and Narayan Tripura of beating his son mercilessly after accusing him of putting a spell in the drink of Sudhanya?s son Sanjib, a student of the same school.

The trio also demanded Rs 4,700 from Rabidhan and held him and his son captive despite the payment.
