Imphal, June 11: Police today arrested the public relations officer of the Kuki National Front (KNF), a militant organisation that has a suspension of operations agreement with the Centre and state government, for his alleged involvement in the murders of two Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) cadres last month.
The KRA has suspension of operations agreement with the Centre and state government.
Director-general of police L.M. Khaute told reporters that a case has been registered against the militant - Letkhoson alias Soson, 42.
Unknown persons killed two self-styled KRA second lieutenants - Ngamlet alias Alet Haokip and Satlhum alias Marcus - near Boljang village in Kangpokpi district on May 5.
The police chief said a team, led by additional superintendent of police (operations) S. Ibomcha Singh, arrested Letkhoson from his house in Sapermeina village, Kangpokpi district.
Nearly 30 Kuki militant groups under two umbrella organisations - United Peoples Front and Kuki National Organisation - are staying at designated camps after signing suspension of operation agreements. However, there have been reports that the cadres often violate the ground rules of the agreements.
Khaute added that the police arrested two individuals, allegedly working for militant groups, in two other raids carried out on Thursday.
He said police carried out a raid at a shop in Lairikyengbam Leikai, Imphal East, and arrested the owner of the shop, Thoudam Henchandra, 40, and charged him for allegedly being involving in money transactions of the Kangleipak Communist Party (Progressive). Police seized incriminating documents from the shop.
In another operation at Thongju in Imphal East, the police arrested 47-year-old Koijam Warjit, an "overground" worker of the Peoples Liberation Army (PLA). The police said incriminating documents were recovered from him. The arrested persons are in police custody and interrogations are on.
