Dimapur: The All Nagaland College Students' Union held a peaceful demonstration in front of its office in Kohima and the DC Court junction here on Friday, seeking Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio's immediate intervention to address their three-point charter of demands.
All colleges of the state remained shut as students joined the protest in large numbers. The students in Dimapur district also boycotted their classes from Friday to push for their demands.
In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister, the students' union urged him to resolve the land encroachment issue of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma (Autonomous), while asserting that it will not allow any kind of encroachment.
The union also demanded proper demarcation of boundaries of all government colleges in the state with fencing/concrete walls. It said most of the government colleges in Nagaland do not have proper demarcation of campuses. The students also demanded permanent settlement of their scholarship issue and establishment of a separate cell or nodal department. They sought disbursement of scholarships within a stipulated time or month every year.
