Members of Youth Congress and NSUI stage a blockade at Agartala railway station on Friday during a 12-hour general strike.
Normal life was disrupted during the strike jointly called by the two groups to protest against irregularities in this year’s joint entrance examination conducted by the Tripura Board of Joint Entrance Examination.
All government offices, educational institutions and business establishments were closed. There was no disruption of air service but train services remained suspended. However, when the SFI and DYF members took to the streets to oppose the strike, it had no impact.
Chief minister Manik Sarkar and minister for higher education Anil Sarkar refused to comment on the issue saying it was sub-judice.
“We have faith in the transparency of the TBJEE and hope they will come clean on the issue,” said Sarkar. Text by our special correspondent and picture by UB Photos
