Sonowal call to free Assam from graft

Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday said people of the region will have to come forward for a corruption-free, terrorism-free, pollution-free, green and harmonious Assam.

Batashipur (Dhekiajuli): Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday said people of the region will have to come forward for a corruption-free, terrorism-free, pollution-free, green and harmonious Assam.

Sonowal, who was addressing the opening event of the four-day closing ceremony of Absu's yearlong golden jubilee celebrations here at "Banaswr Fwthar", also said the union is fighting not only for the Bodo community but for all other communities of the state.

Appreciating the way the organisation works and its discipline, he also maintained that Absu will have to lead the people of both Barak and Brahmaputra valleys and people of hills and plains.

He said communal harmony is required for the development of a nation, adding that he is sincere in considering every issue of the Bodo community. Moreover, laying stress on the educational development of the Bodo communities, he said knowledge is power and to gain it one must gain education, thereby reflecting society's progress.

In his inaugural speech, AASU adviser Sammujjal Bhattacharjya said it is a remarkable day for the state an organisation like Absu has completed 50 years.

He said besides regular activities, Absu will have to show the direction to the people of Assam and take the responsibility of protecting the indigenous people of the state.

Laying stress on the protected future of the people of the region, he also mentioned that the people should look forward to an error-free NRC in the days to come. He also gifted a bunch of books and a xorai to Absu president Pramod Boro.

The event was also attended by former Union home secretary G.K. PillaI, Tezpur University professor Chandan Sharma, National Foundation for India executive director Amitabh Behar, Tezpur MP R.P. Sharma, Dhekiajuli MLA Ashok Singhal and Barchala MLA Ganesh Limbu, among others.
