Mangaldoi: Delhi’s Central Reserve Police Force XI blanked Guwahati Volleyball Club 3-0 in the inaugural match of the first Biswanath Sarma and Bimala Devi all-India Gold Cup invitation volleyball meet at Hazarikapara in Darrang district on Monday. The Guwahati team replaced Northern Railway of Delhi who did not turn up for the meet.

Alipurduar up

Guwahati: Noonmati Cricket Academy, Guwahati, will meet Players XI, Alipurduar, in the final of the 17th Challenge Trophy cricket meet at Dudhnoi in Goalpara on Tuesday. The Alipurduar team on Monday got a walkover as semifinal opponents Yuvak Sangha did not turn up for the match.

ONGC in semis

Guwahati: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation XI on Monday entered the semifinals of the ninth inter-district veterans’ cricket tournament by virtue of a walkover as their opponents Financial Institutions did not turn up for the quarterfinal at Latasil Ground. ONGC XI will take on Guwahati in the second semifinal on Wednesday. Jorhat face Gauhati High Court XI in the first semifinal on Tuesday.

Inauguration

Guwahati: Chief minister Tarun Gogoi will inaugurate the All Assam Tennis Association’s newly-built complex at Chachal on Thursday. Coach T. Chandrasekhar of Gurgaon-based National Tennis Academy has been training Assam probables for the National Games at the same venue since Sunday.
