26 players in under-19 CB Trophy final trials

Guwahati: The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has shortlisted 26 players for the final trial to select the state under-19 team for the under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy elite group tournament. The selected players, who passed the age-verification test last week, were among the 33 probables of the first screening trial. National-level coach Abdul Jabbar Khan is training the players at a camp at NF Railway Stadium in Maligaon.

The shortlisted probables: Bichitra Baruah, Bhaskarjyoti Barman, Abu Naschim Ahmed, Amjad Ali (wk), Gyan Prakash, Sib Sankar Roy, Chandan Rawat, Parvez Aziz, Swarupam Purkayastha, Utpal Medhi (Junior), Abhijit Singha Roy, Dipankar Aditya, Kunal Saikia (wk), Ranjeet Mali, Mistun Biswas, Pankaj Saikia, Amit Sinha, Sadek Imran Choudhury, Arijit Sengupta, Tazindar Singh, Ibrahim Ali, Prakash Bhagat, Ram Kripal Gupta, Arup Sonowal, Amrit Paul and Abdus Salam.

Merhuletsa in semis

Kohima: Merhuletsa Football Club marched into the semi-finals of the Naga Students? Federation-organised Martyrs Cup. Merhuletsa blanked Southern Angami Students Union 2-0 in the first quarterfinal here on Tuesday.

Guwahati open tourney

Guwahati: The Guwahati Chess Association will organise the Guwahati open chess championship at Manipuri Basti High School here from October 25 to 31. The top four players from the meet will represent the district in the 28th all-Assam open in Dibrugarh in December.
