Sunrise crush Nabajyoti

Guwahati: Triple strikes by Birat Mech and Lawrence Rongpi fashioned a 7-0 win for Sunrise Sports Club in the Guwahati Sports Association’s first division opener against Nabajyoti Sports Club at New Field on Tuesday. Former Dynamo player Mech scored in the 13th minute and the 44th minute, while Lawrence slotted two in the 25th minute and 30th minute in the first half. In the second session, Lawrence found the net in the 70th minute, while Rajen Rongpi scored the sixth goal for Sunrise three minutes later. Birat Mech netted his third in 89th minute. Sports Authority of India (SAI) will meet City Police on Thursday.

PHE win league tie

Nagaon: Public Health and Engineering (PHE), Nagaon, registered a 3-1 victory over Madhuchayanika Club in the Nowgong Sports Association’s Nurul Hussain memorial first division football league at Nurul Amin Stadium here on Tuesday. Rajasthani Yubak Sangha will meet Sanjiban Samaj on Wednesday.

U-14 meet

Dibrugarh: The Dibrugarh District Sports Association will organise a under-14 inter-coaching centre invitational prize-money football tournament for the Biman Borgohain Memorial Trophy at Dibrugarh Stadium here from August 24 to 30, said Jayanta Bijoy Sharma, football secretary .

Lifting team

Guwahati: The Assam Powerlifting Association has named a five-member team, including Rosalin Ao, to take part in the senior national powerlifting championship in Mangalore from August 25. Apart from Ao, the team comprises Barnali Devi, Mrinalini Saikia, Minti Gogoi and Pankaj Hazarika.

Ranking ties

Nagaon: The three-day Trailikya Nath memorial all-Assam ranking table tennis championship, organised by Nowgong Sports Association, will be played at Nurul Amin indoor stadium here from August 29.

Expedition

Guwahati: Penguin’s 12-member team will leave for an expedition to Goencha-La (18,000 feet) in Sikkim on Wednesday. The team, led by Ranjita Das, includes Henry David Teron, Hemanta Rabha, Jayanta Kumar Das, Parul Nath, Jaya Moni Das, Jebin Sultana, Ratul Boro, Rajib Gogoi, Simanta Roy, Doumai Mushahary and Hemanta Bezbaruah. The team is expected to scale the summit by August 26.

Trials

Guwahati: The Assam Kickboxing Association will select the state team for the 12th national kickboxing meet, beginning September 11 at J.D. Nagarwala Police Stadium in Ahmedabad.
