Table tennis meet begins

Guwahati: Sports commissioner Pradip Hazarika inaugurated the first leg of the all-Assam ranking table tennis championship of the Assam Table Tennis Association, organised by the Guwahati Table Tennis Players’ Parents Association, at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium on Friday. Paddler Anurag Das of Namrup, who secured the 17th position in the HSLC examination and Kakali Lahkar of Guwahati, who represented Assam at the national level, were feted during the opening ceremony.

Body-builder to represent India

Imphal: Body-builder N. Kishen Singh has been selected to represent India in the below-70 kg category of the Junior Mr Asia contest to be held at Shanghai in China from August 28 to September 3. Kishen was selected in the trials held at Uttaranchal on July 9.

Latasil Club open with win

Guwahati: Latasil Soccer Club edged past Rocket Combine Club, Meghalaya, 2-1 in the inaugural match of the 1st nine-a-side prizemoney football tournament, organised by Embrace United Club, at Machkhowa Idgah on Friday.

Muay Thai players named

Imphal: Manipur Muay Thai players Th. Pahari Singh, L. Malemnganba and Md. Riyaz Khan have been selected to represent India in the Pre-Asian Indoor Games and Asian Muay Thai Championship to be held in Bangalore from August 18 to 21.
