Sops for players

Guwahati: The State Sports Council of Assam will distribute fresh sports scholarship forms for state, national and university-level players for the current financial year from July 15 onwards. Incentives worth Rs 5,400 for state level, Rs 7,200 for national level and Rs 6,000 for university level will be paid per annum. There will also be a Rs 12,000 annual scholarship for women who secure positions in senior national championships. Winners and runners-up in team events and top three position holders in individual events between April 1, 2002, and March 31, 2003, will be eligible for the scholarships. The state sports associations and university sports boards should submit the results of various meets held during the 2002-2003 period before July 15.

Jorhat league

Guwahati: Jail Road Club and Anirudha Dev Sports Club played a goalless draw in the second match of the Jorhat District Sports Association’s first division football league. In the opening encounter, Milanjyoti Sangha beat Rhino Club 2-0 with Subhas Singh and Tapan Chawla doing the scoring.

Table tennis open meet

Guwahati: The Guwahati Sports Association will organise the Guwahati Open table tennis championship at Abita indoor stadium here from July 25. The affiliated clubs should send in their entries along with a fee of Rs 50 to the GSA treasurer by July 20. Non-affiliated clubs will have to pay Rs 250 as sectional affiliation fee.
