Silchar, Feb. 11: The hurdles in the way of two infrastructure development projects in south Assam’s Cachar district have finally been removed.
A Rs 20-crore project to lengthen the runway of Kumbhirgram airport from 5,857 feet to 7,500 feet is set to take off soon, while construction of a bypass to ease traffic congestion on National Highway 53 is expected to begin in April.
The bypass will link a 20.1-km stretch between Ramnagar on the western flank of this town and Kasipur on its eastern fringe via Chenkuri, Ranghirkhari, Boaljur and Badri. The project will cost the exchequer Rs 94.68 crore. The Cachar administration hosted a function here recentlyto hand over land acquired for the bypass to the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF).
