Shillong, Nov. 3: A draw for Shillong United in the Shillong Premier League today ensured that they will finish bottom of the league this season, but they were able to make life difficult for their opponents Langsning, who are still under the threat of relegation.
The match at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium ended 0-0, leaving SUFC on 10 points and Langsning, second last, on 15.
Both clubs had a good go at trying to claim three points, with Langsning looking the more desperate, especially in the second half. They were lacking a few good players in the midfield, however, and saw all their attempts rebuffed by a resolute United defence.
No matter what happens in Shillong United's last match, they are confirmed to end at the bottom of the table and will be relegated after just one season in the premier league.
Langsning, meanwhile, are now tied with Nangkiew Irat on 15 points, but are behind on head-to-head, with the latter also having a game in hand.
The three-way fight to avoid the other relegation spot also includes Laitumkhrah, who have 16 points.
Laitumkhrah will play their last match of the tournament against Nangkiew at 3pm tomorrow. A draw for the former will ensure that they will be in next season's Shillong Premier League.
