Guwahati, Dec. 17: Mrigankajyoti Sharma’s blistering 53 off 21 balls turned the last quarterfinal of the Ankurjyoti Challenge Trophy cricket tournament under way in Latasil Ground between Shantipur AC and Veterans XI into a virtual no-contest.

Chasing Veterans XI’s 154 in 29.3 overs, Shantipur’s Sharma hit four sixes in a row off a hapless K. Das to bring on the winning runs (158) for only two wickets in 20.4 overs and paving the way for his team entry into the last four.

Shantipur will clash with Bud Cricket Club on December 19.

Tauhid Ali Talukdar was unbeaten on 15. Biki Sharma scored 31.

For Shantipur, the main wicket-takers were R.K. Yadav (2/42), Bhardwaj Bhargav (2/24), Uttam Nayak (2/27) and Ibrahim Ali (2/31).

The main scorers for Veterans were Gautam Borkotoky (36) and Dipu Das (22).

Tomorrow, Gauhati Town Club will take on hosts Ankurjyoti Cricket Club in the first semifinal.
