Guwahati, July 19: S.D. Prajwal Dev of Karnataka and Tanvi Hatangadi of Kerala caused major upsets today in the semi-finals of the OIL-AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the All-Assam Tennis Association complex in Chachal here.
While third seed Dev toppled Delhi boy Vishu Prasad 6-4, 6-1 in the under-16 boys’ semi-final, fourth seed Hatangadi came back from a set behind to shock top seed Shivani Ingle of Maharashtra 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 to make it to the under-12 girls’ final.
Dev will clash with second seed Dhruv Pal of Uttarakand in the final tomorrow. Pal made short work of fourth seed B.R. Nikshep of Karnataka 6-2, 6-0 in the other semi-final today.
In the girls’ under-12 final, Hantangadi will face second seed Rashmika Rajan of Karnataka who beat third seed Sabhyata Nihalimi of Delhi 7-5, 7-5 in the round of four.
Top seed Karnataka boy Abhimanyu Vannemreddy will meet second seed Siddhant J. Bhantia of Maharashtra in the boys’ under-12 final.
Vannemreddy made it to the final cruising past fourth seed Rohan K. Reddy of Andhra Pradesh 6-0, 6-2 and Bhantia got the better of third seed Prakrut Patel from Maharashtra 6-1, 7-5 in the semi-final. In under-16 girls’ final, third seed Tanushree Palanivale of Tamil Nadu will meet top seed Karman Kaur of Delhi.
Palanivale beat second seed Andhra girl Rashmita R. Pasula 7-5, 6-1 and Kaur got the better of fourth seed Mihika Yadav of Maharashtra 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 in the semi-finals.
Doubles results: Boys’ u-16 semi-final: S.D. Prajwal Dev/B.R. Nikshep bt Siddharth Basnet/Sheikh Osama 4-0, 4-0.
Girls’ u-12 semi-finals: Akansha Bhan/Sabhyata Nihalini bt Nairuti Vyas/Ishita Parikh 4-1, 4-0, Rachna Reddy/Sai Dedeepya bt P. Rachapudi/Y. Chitika 4-1, 4-0.
Manipur shooting
L.Tomba Singh won the gold in the 22ndAll Manipur Shooting Competition 2012 held at Khuman Lampak shooting range.
Tomba Singh got 251 points for the top spot while G. Shyamkanhai Sharma took the second spot with 244 points and Rohoso Yumkham finished third with 239 points in the 25-metre standard pistol mens’ individual event.
