Guwahati: The employment review committee of the Assam Assembly will take up with chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal the issue of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) allegedly not recruiting sufficient candidates with disabilities from the state.
Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia in a letter to Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami on February 24 last year had accused the ONGC of violating guidelines on employment of local youths by not informing the local employment exchange.
Saikia had raised the issue of recruitments by ONGC against 22 vacant posts for persons with disabilities in 2016, where four persons from Assam and six from outside were recruited.
Member of the committee and Nagaon BJP MLA Rupak Sarmah on Thursday said that after inquiring into the matter and visiting the ONGC Assam Asset at Nazira in Sivasagar district, they found the allegations made by Saikia to be true.
The committee, headed by BPF legislator from Bijni, Kamalshing Narzary, has submitted a report in the Assembly.
Sarmah said the committee, during a meeting here on Thursday, decided to meet the chief minister to discuss the follow-up action on the matter.
The committee has recommended to the state government to formulate a policy for cent per cent recruitment of local candidates in grade III and IV posts in public sector undertakings located in Assam like Oil India Limited, ONGC, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and Coal India, among others.
This recommendation was guided by Gujarat's recruitment policy of providing 85 per cent employment to local people in public sector undertakings like Oil India Limited (OIL) and ONGC.
