Kokrajhar, Jan. 30: The 20th conference of the All-Assam Santhali Sahitya Sabha concluded today, after a three-day colourful programme at Karigaon High School ground in Kokrajhar district.

The Sabha adopted some important resolutions during the session, including initiation of strong measures to move the government of Assam to introduce Santhali language in primary schools and sanction of posts in lower primary to high schools and regularisation of posts of Santhali subject teachers in recently provincialised schools.

It also demanded a fixed payscale for the Santhali teachers in lower primary, middle English and high schools, financial aid to print Santhali textbooks, construction of hostels for Santhali students and a Santhali Sahitya Sabha Bhavan at Gossaigaon.

The Sabha also decided to move a proposal before the state and central governments, seeking Scheduled Tribe status for the community.

The president of the Sabha, Moseram Marandi, said though they have been making various demands to the state government for some time, no initiative has been taken so far.

This morning, a cultural procession was taken out, flagged off by Bejamin Soren, the adviser to the Sabha.

An open session was held later, attended by Kokrajhar East MLA Pramila Rani Brahma, Kokrajhar MP Hira Saraniya, BTC executive members Rajib Brahma, Daneswar Goyary, president of the Rabha Sahitya Sabha, Amarsing Koch, among others.

A souvenir, Mandali, was also released on the occasion.
