Imphal, April 2: The Steel Authority of India Limited has requested the All Manipur Football Association to shortlist four promising footballers to attend a trial for induction into the SAIL Football Academy.

In a statement issued last week, the SAIL authorities said an all-India trial for age-group footballers between 14 and 16 years would be held from April 16 to 18 at the MKM Stadium, Bokaro Steel City.

The probable footballers will have to be accompanied by a manager during the trials. The selected footballers will have a three-year training stint at the SAIL academy.

The period of training may be extended for another two years later.

Hockey team: The Manipur Hockey Association has selected 24 players, including six in the reserve list for the third under-18 Junior National Hockey Championship to be held at Guntur in Andhra Pradesh from April 14-22.

W. Herojit and Ng. Motilal have been named as team manager and coach respectively.

In reserve: N. Herojit, K. Tompok, K. Naocha, N. Somobanta, M. Mirple and W. Jiban.
