Guwahati, Aug. 4: The Sports Authority of India will inaugurate two new Special Area Games (SAG) centres at Sarbananda Singha Stadium in Tinsukia and at the Kokrajhar District Sports Association complex next week.
State power and industries minister Pradyut Bordoloi will inaugurate the Tinsukia centre on August 7. Parliamen-tary secretary Parameswar Brahma, former sports minister Robin Bordoloi and former home commissioner B.K. Gohain will attend the inaugural ceremony. SAI secretary B.K. Sinha will be the special guest of honour on the occasion.
An organising committee has been constituted with Tinsukia DC A.K. Absar Hazarika as chairman and district sports officer Uday Kamal Chetia as convenor.
The Tinsukia centre will accommodate disciplines like athletics and judo for both boys and girls and football for women only. The centre will initially induct 100 sportspersons, including 25 under the non-residential scheme.
The Kokrajhar centre will be inaugurated by Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on August 12. Bodoland Territorial Area Districts chief Hagrama Mohilary, transport minister Chandan Brahma, welfare of plain tribes and agriculture minister Pramila Rani Brahma and parliamentary secretary Parameswar Brahma, among others, will attend the ceremony.
An organising committee with BTAD deputy chief Khampha Borgayary as chairman and Simson Mushahary as convenor, has been formed.
Though the centre will be inaugurated at the KDSA complex as per an MoU in June 2004, it will later be shifted to its permanent settlement at Kantalguri after completion of infrastructure development.
The disciplines to be acco-mmodated include athletics, archery, boxing, football and taekwondo. The proposed stre-ngth of trainees will be 100, including 30 non-residential ones.
