Rumi Nath, 34, first elected to the Assam Assembly on a BJP ticket from Borkhola constituency in Cachar district in Barak Valley in 2006. Her constituency is about 350kmsouth of Guwahati

♦ Leaves her first husband Rakesh Kumar Singh, a physician from Uttar Pradesh, and marries a government employee, Jacky Jakir, on April 13, 2012, after converting to Islam

♦ Outraged at her change of religion, a mob attacks Rumi and Jakir at a hotel in Karimganj, about 240km south of Guwahati, in June 2012

♦ Case registered against Rumi at Dispur police station in July 2012, on a complaint lodged by three persons for allegedly assaulting them at the residence of Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, Congress MLA from Karimganj North constituency

♦ Rumi leaves Jakir, the son of a former deputy superintendent of police, in 2014

♦ Jakir arrested in Silchar, headquarters of Cachar district, after Rumi files a complaint against him in April 2014, accusing him of torturing her for money. He was released on bail

On April 3, 2015, police arrest Anil Chauhan, kingpin of a countrywide car-stealing racket, in Guwahati. His questioning at Azara police station on the outskirts of Guwahati throws up clues to Jakir and Rumi's alleged involvement in the racket. This leads to her name being added to the Chauhan case at Azara police station. Jakir arrested on April 7
