Nagaon, Sept. 15: Royal Sports Club defeated Food Corporation of India, Guwahati, 2-0 in the second round match of the 58th Independence Day Cup football at Kampur Sports Association ground near here.

Striker Zenith Sarma of Royal Sports Club scored in the 23rd minute of the match while Khemrah Sang Aah scored the second goal in the 91st minute of the match.

FCI got several chances but failed to capitalise on any of them. For Royal, it was their second win on the trot, taking them to the pre-quarterfinal. They beat Nagaon 1st division champs 9th APBN Borhamour 4-0 at Nurul Amin Stadium on September 12 to enter the second round.

FCI had defeated 1st division runners up Radial Club 5-1 in the first round match on September 13. In their first match of the meet at Nurul Amin Stadium here today, Assam Police Blues entered the quarterfinals defeating Balughat Town Club of West Bengal 3-1.

Anuj Gogoi of the police team scored the first goal in the 10th minute of the match. Striker Sanjay Brahma and Amulya Das scored the second and third goals in the 64th and 88th minutes. Swapan Hangsada scored the only goal for Balughat Town Club in the 15th minute of the match.

Balughat Town Club and Janandas Torun Sangha, also from West Bengal, are playing in the ID Cup for the first time.

Tomorrow, Langsning Spo-rts Club, Shillong, meet Khidi-rpur Sporting Club at Nurul Amin stadium here and CRPF Jalandhar meet Janandas Tarun Sangha at Dhing Sports Association playground.

The meet is being played at three venues — Nagaon, Dhing and Kampur.
