Guwahati, April 20: River Rine Club proved to be no match for Nabajyoti Club today, falling 153 runs short of the winning target in a Group-A match of the Guwahati Sports Association’s Madhab Ram Bora first division cricket league under way at Nehru Stadium.
Electing to bat first, Nabajyoti Club rode a swashbuckling century by opener Abhijit Singha Roy to pile up 262 for seven in the stipulated 35 overs. River Rine were sent packing for 109 in 26.3 overs.
Top order batsmen Roy and R.K. Mritunjoy Gohain shared a 200-run partnership for the second wicket to lay a strong foundation for Nabajyoti. Roy scored 103 off 96 balls, hammering 15 fours and an over-boundary. Gohain contributed a solid 70, facing 67 balls. His knock was laced with seven hits to the fence and a six.
Skipper Sadek Imran Choudhury chipped in with a quickfire 30 off only 12 balls, blasting five boundaries and a six, while Ram Kripal Gupta contributed 18, including a four and a six.
Arup Saha of River Rine Club notched three wickets for 36 runs in three overs.
For River Rine, Binoy Raut (28, 4x6) and Sandipan Debnath (28, 4x3) were the only notable scorers, while Jintu Das, the only other player to score in double figures, batted to 10.
Spinners Bhaskar Jyoti Barman and Sadek Imran Choudhury ripped through the innings with the scalps of three each, conceding eight and 19 runs respectively.
Tomorrow, City Cricket Club will take on Santipur Athletics Club in a Group-B fixture.
