Imphal, July 25: Rising Athletic Union thrashed Star Sporting Club, Porompat, by 7-0 goals in the opening match of Moirangthem Ibobi Memorial First Division Football League 2013 that got under way at Khuman Lampak main stadium today.

Rising Athletic Union got an early breakthrough with Th. Deban Singh playing a lone ranger, which flew into the net in the fifth minute of play.

The second half saw Rising Athletic Union dominate the game, giving the opponents little breathing space.

S. Sumneison fetched the second goal for Rising Athletic Union in the 52nd minute to open the goal floodgates.

Shortly thereafter, M. Bikash Singh netted two more goals in the 59th and 61st minutes.

The Star Sporting Club woes continued, as Helpson of Rising Athletic Union struck two quick goals in the 71st and 72nd minutes.

M. Bikash scored his team’s seventh goal in the injury time to wrap up the game.

Rising Athletic Union players Helpson, Ch. Bikram, N. John, L. Naoba and Star Sporting Club player Saheed were awarded yellow cards in the match.

Andro Kendra legislator Th. Shyamkumar formally inaugurated the league.

Altogether eight teams, including Rising Athletic Union, Progressive Youth Association, Youth Development Club, United Progressive Sporting Association, Super Sporting Club Sekta, North Eastern Sporting Union, DOAK Yairipok and Super Sporting Club, Porompat are participating in the league, organised by Imphal East District Football Association.
