RIMS docs seek safe quarters

Imphal, Oct. 13: The senior doctors of the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) today held a sit-in at the institute here in protest against attacks on doctors. The casualty and OPD departments will remain shut for 24 hours from 9am on Thursday.

The doctors will also demand a secure colony in view of the repeated attacks. The residences of two surgeons, Manoharmayum Birkumar and Takhellambam Yumjao Babu, were attacked in quick succession. While no one was injured in the attack on Birkumar’s residence, a domestic help, Naobi Devi, was injured during the attack on Yumjao’s residence. The residents of Mayai Koibi also staged a sit-in to denounce the attacks.

The residents of Imphal West’s Sapam Leirak today caught a cadre of the Kuki Liberation Army, Chabungbam Bisobanta alias Momo, while trying to extort money from retired government doctor A. K. Ibeyaima Devi. He was handed over to the police.
