Shillong, Jan. 15: The three accused allegedly involved in sexual exploitation of a minor, including MLA Julius Dorphang, were interrogated while two more are still absconding.
The three accused who are in police custody for interrogation include Dorphang, Nirdesh Jain, alias Appu, who worked as a manager in a petrol pump at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills district and Dorphang's aide Elbert Shemphang Kharlukhi, alias Kesop.
Kesop is a surrendered militant of the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC). Dorphang, who represents Mawhati Assembly constituency, was the chairman of the HNLC.
While Dorphang was interrogated by Ri Bhoi police in their custody, Kesop and Appu were grilled by city police.
The police said Kesop had allegedly abetted the crime as he helped Dorphang to book a room at Lumsohphoh guesthouse here.
Dorphang who had been remanded in 14 days' judicial custody by a court here on January 12, was shifted to Ri Bhoi district on January 13 for interrogation. Ri Bhoi police got five days to interrogate Dorphang.
"We are on the lookout for two more persons but both are absconding," a senior police officer here said.
So far the police have arrested 11 persons, including Dorphang.
The police had earlier arrested Mamoni Parveen who allegedly used the girl for prostitution. The victim had worked as a domestic help in Mamoni's house here. The girl was allegedly trafficked by Mamoni along with her accomplices and taken to some hotels and guesthouses for sexual exploitation.
Among the guesthouses where the girl was sexually exploited are Marvelenes's Inn, owned by home minister H.D.R. Lyngdoh's son Nathaniel Rymmai and Lumsohphoh guesthouse owned by D.M. Lyngwa.
The waiter of Marvelenes Inn, Usha Deb Barman, was also arrested along with Mamoni's husband, Sandip Biswa and Mamoni's house owner, Wanlambok Khongsit along with Tarisha Mary Kharbamon, Mona Lisa Shangpliang, Madan Bahadur Thapa and Kentli Tangsang.
Most of the arrested persons have been remanded in judicial custody. All arrested persons have been booked under various sections of the IPC, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act and Immoral Trafficking Prevention (ITP) Act.
