Essay contest

Jorhat, Sept. 2: Prabajan Virodhi Manch will organise an online essay competition for high school, higher secondary and undergraduate students to create awareness about the threat by illegal migrants in the state.

The manch has selected a topic - Relevance of Lachit Borphukan in Today's Time - for students between Classes VI to X, while for the higher secondary and undergraduate students the topic will be Our Duty as a Citizen to Protect the Identity of the Indigenous People of Assam. The date of the essay competition will be announced soon.

Manipur win

Imphal: Manipur defeated Tripura 5-1 in the qualifying round of Sub-Junior Boys National Football Championship, 2017-18, on artificial turf, Khuman Lampak, here on Saturday.

Released

Guwahati: The eight accused in the cash-for-jobs scam in Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), including Samedur Rahman and Basanta Kumar Doley, were released on Saturday from Guwahati Central Jail, two days after they were granted bail by Gauhati High Court.

Flood aid

Guwahati: Oxfam India, an NGO, has provided safe water, hygiene facilities, emergency shelter material and other essentials to 1,35,200 people in Assam, Manipur, Bihar, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh where floods have wreaked havoc.

Alliance

Aizawl (PTI): A non-Congress and non-MNF alliance - Zoram Peoples Movement - has been formed in Mizoram. The alliance comprises Zoram Nationalist Party, Mizoram Peoples Conference and Zoram Exodus Movement.
