Guwahati, April 7: Unseeded Raunak Bora upset fourth seed Vishal Baruah to make it to the boys’ under-12 semi-finals in the All Assam sub-junior Ranking Tennis Tournament at Nambari Tennis Courts in Maligaon here today.
Bora won the quarter-final match 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) in tiebreakers.
Others who joined him in the semis are Ashish Kashyap, Aman Deo and Bijoy Mohanty.
Kashyap took out Udipta Hazarika 6-1, 6-0, Deo prevailed over Ankit Kashyap 1-6, 6-2, 7-5 and Mohanty floored Ronit Bora 6-0, 6-3.
Mohanty also made it to the under-14 boys’ semi-finals defeating Akshay Jajodia 6-4, 6-0. He will meet Amlan Jyoti Baruah, who defeated Ashish Kashyap 6-0, 6-1, in the semis. Subham K. Patra and Rohan Choudhury also made it to the round of four defeating Aditya Phukan 6-3, 6-0 and Sahidul Islam 0-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) respectively.
In the girls’ court, Amrita Nath, Nazia Ahmed, Moitry Phukan and Tanisha Baruah entered the under-14 quarter-finals.
Nath defeated Murchana Saharia 8-6, Ahmed got the better of Aryaki Alomyan 8-5, Phukan prevailed over Susan Daimary 8-2 and Baruah cruised past Sreya Dutta in the one-setter pre-quarters matches.
