Rangia trounce Jorhat

Nagaon, Aug. 31: Rangia defeated Jorhat 2-1 in a first round match of all-Assam women’s under-19 football tournament organised by Karbi Anglong district sports association at Hanjanglangso playground in Bokajan today.

Rangia led Jorhat 1-0 till the end of the first half. In the 20th minute of the match, Rangia midfielder Jitu Boro made a beautiful pass to right-winger Junali Boro, whose speedy corner shot brought the first goal for Rangia. However, Junali’s second and third attempts in the 31st and 42nd minutes were skilfully saved by Jorhat goalkeeper Jina Lahkar.

In the 52nd minute of the match, Jorhat striker Olina Keriya made best use of the ball captured from rival Rangia striker Jintu to equalise and make the score 1-1.

Rangia midfielder Jitu Boro, however, scored the winning goal from the D-box at the 56th minute of the match.

Jorhat striker Jyoti Lakra was named the Best Player of the Match.

More than 2,000 soccer lovers from different parts of the bordering Bokajan area gathered in Hanjanglangso playground to enjoy the match. Of the 12 teams which participated in the tournament, Bokakhat, Titabar and Jorhat left the tournament in the first round. Charaideo failed to turn up at the 11th hour.

Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council chairman Mangalsingh Engti inaugurated the tournament on Sunday.
