Dibrugarh, Oct. 6: Ranchi University defeated Utkal University 2-1 inthe East Zone Inter-University Women's Football Tournament, 2016-17, organised by Dibrugarh University Sports Board in association with the Association of Indian Universities at Dibrugarh University playground here yesterday.

Ranchi University took the lead through Soumitra Marandi in the 35th minute. Soumitra collected a pass from the right flank and found the back of the net. Ranchi dominated the first half with their offensive technique.

At lemon break, Ranchi led 1-0.

In the second half, Ranchi scored their second goal through Pronati Tirki in the 75th minute. Pronati received a pass off Soumitra from the left flank and struck the goal.

Utkal University got their only goal in the 84th minute through Purnima Rao.

In another match, Manipur University blanked Dibrugarh University 4-0. Umapati Devi scored a hat-trick for Manipur. She scored in 26th, 38th and 65th minutes.

Shanti Devi scored the fourth salvo through a header from the corner in the 77th minute.
