Aizawl, Sept. 11: Sairang police on Saturday arrested Joseph Lalrinliana from Lengpui village on the charge of raping a minor.

Police had arrested another villager, Malsawmkima, from the same place only four days ago for raping a mentally challenged 10-year-old.

A police report said Lalrinliana had raped this relative of his on four occasions. Despite repeated warnings, he again raped her on September 2.

On Saturday, the Lengpui village joint committee brought out a resolution after a meeting, demanding that authorities mete out the harshest punishment possible to Malsawmkima. The resolution also stated that the accused should be ostracised from Lengpui.

Malsawmkima had come to Lengpui barely seven or eight months ago. The villagers have decided to take out a procession in the village tomorrow against the rape.

Arrest: An official working with the Oil and Natural Gas Commission was today arrested on charges of extortion and cheating. He was remanded in judicial custody for 14 days, reports PTI from Sivasagar.
