Imphal: The Manipur government is working overtime to have Rani Gaidinliu Park inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the state on Friday.
The N. Biren Singh government has developed the park in honour of the freedom fighter at Mantripukhri between Manipur High Court and the civil secretariat which is now under construction on the outskirts of Imphal.
Modi will attend the inaugural programme of the five-day Indian Science Congress at Manipur University on Friday, address a public reception and inaugurate projects.
Chief minister Biren Singh on Tuesday inspected preparations at Luwangshangbam in Imphal East district for Modi's visit.
He along with top officials oversaw preparations at Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium where Modi will inaugurate/lay foundation stones of different projects and attend a public reception.
Biren Singh inspected construction of a temporary helipad for Modi's landing.
He also inspected progress of work at the civil secretariat and Rani Gaidinliu Memorial Complex at Mantripukhri.
He said his government had identified nearly 14 projects for inauguration/foundation-laying by Modi during his visit.
The state government had installed a more than 10ft statue of Rani Gaidinliu on March 7.
The Kabui Mothers' Association had performed yoopan thaba (offering of holy wine) to god at the memorial complex on Monday.
The association's general secretary, Ranjita Golmei, said construction of the memorial complex is yet to be completed.
She said the state government had installed the statue without informing the association as such occasions require rituals.
She said finishing touches are yet to be given to the statue.
"We have met the chief minister and he assured us that the incomplete portions of the park will be completed after the inauguration by the Prime Minister," Golmei said.
