Jorhat, Sept. 19: The Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Bagchung, will hold a district inter-school quiz contest tomorrow as part of its silver jubilee celebration.

The school has also lined up a cultural procession on Wednesday and a grand ceremony on Saturday.

Addressing a news meet here today, principal Xavier Mattam said Don Bosco School, Bagchung, had for the last 25 years served society and the celebration was the culmination of that service.

“Usually, Don Bosco schools are set up in rural areas to serve the community in that area and Bagchung Don Bosco was set up with the same motive. This makes our celebration more meaningful,” Mattam said.

While the quiz will be conducted by Moni Mugdha Sharma from New Delhi, the procession with students of Classes VII to XII and cultural troupes will start from the JDSA ground here at 10am.

“We will hold the function at the newly constructed outdoor stage and provision will be made to seat 4,000 people. However, to prevent any unsavoury incident, only people with invitation cards will be allowed. The district administration has also assured us that it would take care of security,” he said.

The Don Bosco School at Bagchung started on March 19, 1986, with 40 students and one teacher. In June 2010, the school received permission from the Directorate of Secondary Education to begin Classes XI and XII in science and arts stream.

Parents were assured of safety of their children.

On parents’ concern over safety of their children, the principal said a high wall had been constructed and a permanent security guard employed.
