Silchar, Sept. 1: 'Dream big, work with honesty and dedication and success will be yours.' This was the message to the students of the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, by Assam governor Banwarilal Purohit, who inaugurated the seventh NIT Conclave, 2017, here today.
Speaking at the inaugural programme at NIT, Silchar, this afternoon, Purohit, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam dreamt of seeing India as the best country in the world and it is the students (the youth), who can make it happen.
He exhorted the students to take a pledge that they would sincerely work/contribute for the progress of society and the nation so that Kalam's dream would become reality.
'These years, here at NIT, are the most vital time for you all. Focus on your goals, believe in yourself and nobody can stop you,' he told the students. 'The conclave is a remarkable initiative as it gives brilliant minds a platform to come together and share ideas and knowledge. Make the most of it.'
Purohit said corruption has infected the country over the years and is the biggest obstacle in the path of progress and development. He also advised students not to get blinded by the temptation of a lavish lifestyle, which often leads to the beginning of indulging in corruption.
'Simple living is the key to a happy life. Follow this and life will be beautiful,' he added.
NIT Silchar director Prof. Rajat Gupta said, the institution has been ranked 53rd this year amongst all the engineering colleges in the country. 'It was ranked 65th last year (2016) and this year it has improved by 12 ranks. This is possible because of the tireless efforts of our dedicated teachers as well as of the students,' he said.
Gupta also said he is optimistic that the conclave would be a great experience for the students.
The theme of the conclave is 'Transients in Technical Education - Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship'.
More than 100 students from 20 NITs are participating in the conclave, which features an exhibition of electronic, healthcare, automation and eco-friendly products among others, made by the students of NIT Silchar.
Cachar deputy commissioner S. Viswanathan, NIT Manipur director S.B. Singh and secretary to Assam governor Gokul Mohan Hazarika were also present during the inaugural programme.
