Promila lifts women's title

Imphal, Sept. 15: W. Promila Devi lifted the women’s singles title in the eighth Manipur Veteran Table Tennis Championship that concluded at D.M. College here on Sunday.

In the final of the women’s singles, W. Promila Devi had an easy win, scoring 11-8, 11-7 and 12-10 points against Kh. Sandhyarani Devi.

As for the men’s singles, S. Joychandra Singh overcame N. Biren Singh with scores of 11-7, 11-6, 9-11 and 12-10 for the title. In the men’s double 50-plus category, the pair of Ch. Biren Singh and Tomba Laishram got the better of O. Dijendra Singh and Y. Bijoy Singh by 8-11,14-12, 11-6 and 11-8 points.

In the 50-plus men’s singles event, Y. Bijoy Singh fought back in the end to beat Tomba Laishram by 11-13, 10-12, 11-9, 11-4 and 11-5 points for the title.

In the mixed doubles final, N. Biren Singh and W. Promila Devi ousted the pair of Rk. Deven Singh and L. Sandhyarani Devi by 11-3, 11-8 and 11-7 points. In the women’s doubles, W. Promila Devi and L. Sandhyarani Devi triumphed over Kh. Sandhyarani Devi and G. Satyabhama Devi.

In the men’s doubles, the pair of S. Joychandra Singh and N. Biren Singh emerged victorious over Th. Dhanachandra Singh and L. Gokul Singh. Ch. Anilkumar Singh bagged the fresher’s single’s title beating I. Somokanta Singh.
