Tezpur, June 19: Additional director-general of police (special branch) Pallab Bhattacharya today said investigations have revealed that the Facebook account where pictures of Adivasi woman Laxmi Orang being stripped and beaten during the 2007 Beltola violence in Guwahati were posted was a fake account created in the name of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.
"Preliminary probe revealed that the Facebook account is a fake one and not that of Yogi Adityanath. We will also take the help of Uttar Pradesh police in the investigation," he said.
Laxmi today said she would file a case against Adityanath in a court in Biswanath district of Assam for allegedly using the pictures with misleading information in the Facebook post.
The post claims that a Hindu woman was harassed by Congress workers for allegedly raising slogans in support of the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Laxmi, who visited the district court in Biswanath today, said all preparations have been completed and the case would be filed tomorrow against Adityanath for defaming her.
Yesterday, the All Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AASAA) had lodged an FIR at Moranhat police station in Charaideo district against Adityanath for allegedly posting the photographs.
"Yogi Adityanath has no right to play politics with me. I had not participated in that rally at Beltola on behalf of any political party but to demand Scheduled Tribe status for our community. I was there as a member of AASAA," Laxmi told The Telegraph over phone.
"In the last 10 years, I had not asked for any government job following the incident and Yogi Adityanath without knowing the facts misused the pictures and commented on them in the social media. It was totally wrong. He does not have any respect for women," Laxmi alleged.
She further said while the Prime Minister coined slogans like beti bachao, beti padhao (save and educate daughters), a chief minister of his party "is doing such things".
Members of AASAA burnt the effigy of Adityanath at Biswanath today. There were protests by the activists yesterday also. They also shouted slogans against the UP chief minister and R.P. Sharma, the Tezpur MP who shared the post.
AASAA president Pradeep Nag has vehemently condemned the incident and sought punishment for Adityanath.
Nag further said if the BJP government fails to ensure justice for the Adivasis, it should be "ready to face the consequences".
