Hailakandi, July 10: Public Health Engineering Recreation Club clinched the prestigious Mridul Hore Trophy prizemoney knockout football title at Satindra Mohan Stadium in Silchar today. The team defeated Town Club through tie-breakers (7-6).

The scoreline read 2-2 in the stipulated time.

Paotana Rongmei scored first for Town Club. The PHE team equalised in the 18th minute through Ringson Hmar off a pass from Jomin Thanga Sang. Piyush Sinha gave the lead to Town Club through a free kick in the 76th minute. In the 88th minute, Achuana scored the second goal for PHE through a penalty kick.

In the penalty shootout, Jairemthang, Achuana, Ringson Hmar, Jomin Thanga and Kaguigaipao Rongmei scored on behalf of PHE. Town Club’s Huranglung, Paotana Rongmei, Mamate Rongmei and Piyush Sinha also converted their kicks.

Referee Mrinal Kanti Roy red carded goalkeeper John Hmar in the 65th minute.

Piyush Sinha was named Man of the Series.
