Guwahati: The Assam PCC's legal cell will be setting up helplines in all the district and sub-divisional headquarters for genuine Indian citizens whose names do not figure in the complete draft NRC list.

The decision was taken after an interaction between newly-appointed AICC general secretary in charge of Assam Harish Rawat and members of the legal cell at the party headquarters, Rajiv Bhawan, here on Saturday.

Legal cell chairman Niran Borah said the participants discussed various aspects of the NRC. "Rawat said we should do everything possible to help genuine Indian citizens left out of the NRC; cooperate with the authorities for publication of a correct NRC, check vested interests from fomenting trouble in the name of NRC and set up helplines in all districts and subdivisions for those who need help on NRC," Borah said. Helplines will be set up in all 33 districts and 78 sub-divisions.
