Guwahati, May 17: Kamrup (metro) deputy commissioner M. Angamuthu today constituted a committee to look into the taxi syndicate operating at Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi (LGB) International Airport.
The committee comprises senior officials of the district administration, airport authorities, police officials and officials of the state transport department. Angamuthu directed the committee to look into the matter and submit a report within the next 15 days.
"We came to know of a taxi syndicate operating on the premises of the LGB International Airport and the people who run this syndicate create much trouble for the public. Apart from charging passengers a high taxi fare, they also do not allow some taxi owners to carry passengers, while allowing others to operate under the syndicate. They sometimes do not allow people to park their vehicles. This high-handedness is causing much chaos. Hence, we have decided to take action against them and make the airport more user-friendly," said Angamuthu.
