Over 200 projects in the pipeline

The Assam government has lined up 237 projects - from cardiac centres in district hospitals to rural business process outsourcing units, golf resorts and management college - to be highlighted during the two-day global investors' summit from Saturday.

Guwahati: The Assam government has lined up 237 projects - from cardiac centres in district hospitals to rural business process outsourcing units, golf resorts and management college - to be highlighted during the two-day global investors' summit from Saturday.

Industry officials said maximum emphasis is on development of infrastructure with 35 projects identified for private investment. These include industrial growth centres in Matia in Goalpara and Balipara in Tezpur, mega food park in Tihu in Nalbari, nine integrated infrastructure development centres in Demow in Sivasagar, Titabar in Jorhat, Silapathar in Dhemaji, Bhomoraguri in Nagaon, Pathsala in Nalbari, Mainibeel in Cachar, Banderdewa in Lakhimpur, Serfanguri in Chirang and Parbatipur in Tinsukia and cold chain units in 10 districts each with a capacity of 1,500 metric tonnes.

The 14 sectors identified for investment are food processing, organic cultivation, bamboo, IT and ITES, skill development, roads, industrial infrastructure, healthcare, urban infrastructure, education, development of river transport and ports, tourism, plastics and petrochemicals, power, pharmaceuticals and handloom and textiles.

"Some of these projects have already been established and we are looking for private players to operate them. In others, we are ready to provide land and other facilities for public-private-partnership," an official said.

The department wants to set up milk processing units in Silchar, Tezpur, Nagaon and Bajali in Barpeta districts, a Rs 20-crore orchid park near Guwahati for commercial cultivation of local varieties and buy-back arrangement with farmers and a banana park at Matia in Goalpara with an investment of Rs 18 crore.

An IT park spread over 100 acres in Bangra in Kamrup district at Rs 989 crore, Rs 290 crore for an electronics manufacturing cluster, rural BPOs, IT start-ups and an incubation centre near Guwahati are among the 10 projects in IT and ITES sector.

The department also wants investment for a skill city and advanced skill development institutes in different districts.

The health department plans to involve the private sector in setting up and managing cardiac centres in district hospitals and an Ayush training institute-cum-wellness centre at Navagraha hills in Guwahati, among others.

It has identified water supply projects, waste management projects in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Nagaon and Jorhat and Rs 100-crore for a proposed ropeway between Kamakhya and Sonaram school field here and another Rs 12 crore for a ropeway being constructed between Guwahati and North Guwahati over the Brahmaputra. It also plans management colleges in Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Goalpara districts.

The tourism department plans a golf resort/hotel at Chandrapur at Rs 330 crore, a resort at Chandubi, luxury tourism lodges/resorts at Amingaon, Kaliabari, Majuli, Sivasagar, Pobitora and Borbari in Guwahati and a tea museum in Dibrugarh.
