Imphal, June 19: The much-awaited Olympic Bhawan will finally see the light of day this month, as part of a bid to boost the Olympic movement in the state.

The Olympic Bhawan, constructed adjacent to the rowing canal of the Khuman Lampak sports complex, will house a library, a sports museum, faculty for medicine, six guest rooms and three conference halls, among other things.

The construction started in January, 2009, with a budget provision of Rs 4 crore and was completed earlier this year. Manipur Olympic Association secretary L. Manglem Singh said once the building is put to use, several orientation programmes would be taken up.

He added that several national federations have reposed faith in the state sportspersons for bringing laurels to the country.

The Olympic Bhawan would help create a conducive atmosphere for the endeavour.

Manglem said the Manipur Olympic Association, which came into being in 1979, will also install a bronze bust of the association’s founding president Rk. Madhuryajit Singh, at the Olympic Bhawan.

Trekkers lauded

The Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association held a reception of the 48 trekkers, including three girls, who had visited Dzuko valley during the World Environment Day celebrations from June 5 to June 30 at Minuthong office today.

The association will also be conducting a rafting expedition on June 26 and 27.

The association will also felicitate Anshu Jamsenpa, the first Indian woman to scale Mount Everest twice in the same season, at Hotel Imphal tomorrow.
