Dibrugarh, Nov. 11: Champions and hosts Oil India Limited Football Club defeated Punjab Police, Jalandhar 2-1 to clinch the title of the fifth OIL India Challenge Gold Cup Football Tournament, which concluded at the OIL Nehru Maidan, Duliajan this afternoon.
For OIL, Stephen Njoh scored the first goal of the match in the fifth minute.
However, Amondeep Batra of Punjab Police found the equaliser in the 35th minute of the match.
In the second half, Jayanta Basumatary netted the winning goal for OIL in the 71st minute of the match.
OIL scorer Njoh was cautioned by referee Dwijendra Mohan Sarma for rough play.
Oil India Limited has been organising the tournament since 2005. This year, 13 teams were invited to take part in the tournament, which has now being recognised as a first class tournament by the All India Football Federation.
Athletics team: The Assam Athletic Association today named 26 athletes to represent the state in the 25th Junior Nationals at Warangal in Andhra Pradesh from November 17 to 21 says our Guwahati correspondent.
The athletes will leave for Warangal on Friday.
