Guwahati, March 11: Hosts Oil India Ltd (B) blanked Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd (CPCL) 4-0 in the inaugural match of the inter-unit Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) football tournament at Nehru Maidan in Duliajan today.

For OIL (B), Tridip Khound drew first blood in the 11th minute of the match as the CPCL defence was caught napping. A minute later, another defence lapse saw CPCL concede the second goal to Bhupen Gogoi.

Leading 2-0, the hosts had the upper hand in the remainder of the first half. However, the score remained the same.

After the lemon break, the OIL forwards got their act together again and Gogoi scored his second goal and his team’s third. In the 26th minute of the second half, OIL made it 4-0, thanks to Khound, who also netted his second goal, to put the opposition in disarray.

Tomorrow, IOCL (AOD) will lock horns with Gail in a Group A match.

Altogether six teams are taking part in the tournament. The final will be held on March 16.
