NSCN-K militant arrested

The Assam Rifles today arrested an NSCN (K) militant who is suspected of providing logistics to the group that killed five soldiers and injured over half a dozen in two attacks recently.

Tinsukia, Dec. 9: The Assam Rifles today arrested an NSCN (K) militant who is suspected of providing logistics to the group that killed five soldiers and injured over half a dozen in two attacks recently.

The first incident was on November 19 in Pengeri area of Tinsukia district where three soldiers were killed and the second was in Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh, on December 4, where two Assam Rifles personnel were killed.

Commander of 25 Sector, Assam Rifles Brig. D.K. Singh said, acting on specific intelligence input, troops of the Assam Rifles arrested the militant, identified as S.S. Ranapio Khinpang Jugli, from his residence at Kaikhupathar, around 6km from Kharsang town. Kharsang in Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang district is around 88km east of Tinsukia.

"Not one but several intelligence agencies have confirmed his role in providing crucial support to the group involved in the ambush on the army at Pengeri in Tinsukia district," Singh said.
