
TAEKWONDO CUP
Imphal, Aug. 22: National Sports Academy (NSA), Imphal, and United Taekwondo Academy (UTA), Keishamthong, claimed three gold medals each on the third day of the 29th Manipur State Taekwondo Championship and 12th Governor's Taekwondo Cup Manipur at the NSA's Imphal Training Hall in Khuman Lampak.
NSA fetched the gold in the cadet boys' under-57kg bout with Th. Joychandra getting the better of his compatriot Y. Sadananda while Manganleiba Ningombam of CTI and E. Luchingba of UTA fetched the bronze medals.
In the junior boys under-55kg category, P. Bope of NSA beat M. Ronaldo of UTA for the gold. O. Thoungamba of UTA and S. Lenin of NSA settled for the bronze medals. The third gold for NSA Imphal was picked by N. Helena Devi in the junior girls under-68kg.
Th. Jack claimed the gold in the junior boys' under-45kg against Azmir Hossen of NSA.
In the junior boys under-51kg, Y. Chandrakumar Singh of UTA got the better of compatriot S. Somorjit for the gold while B. Rahul of SAI RC and Ng. Roshan of Nambol fetched the bronze medals.
Albert Yumnam beat M. Romiya Singh of Manipur Police Sports Club to hand UTA their third gold of the day.
SAI RC also bagged one gold medal today when L. Birjit Singh beat M. Jamesbond of UTA. S. Devajit Singh of UTA and L. Sandeep of Manipur Police Sports Club claimed the bronze medals.
Ningthemcha Shilheiba defeated Girish Chingangbam of HTA to hand CTI their solitary gold of the day.
Super Division Football: UPAA Kiyamgei rode on Th. Bonarth Singh's two goals to beat Eastern Sporting Union 2-1 in the Maharajkumar Ghanendrajit Imphal West Super Division Football League Tournament, 2016, at SWC Khongman ground.
Eastern Sporting Union opened their account with H. Aboy scoring in the 16th minute. In the second half, UPAA Kiyamgei equalised via Th. Bonarth in the 46th minute to level the score 1-1. Th. Bonarth scored a goal yet again for the victory today.
Kakching Second Division: DYA Elangkhangpokpi claimed the champion's title beating TYPA Sora in the DSA Kakching Second Division Football League, 2016, at Kakching ground.
Basketball: Don Bosco College, Maram, registered a double win, beating DMC Sciences 23-14 and Manipur College by 30-25 points to enter the final of the MU Inter-College Men's Basketball Tournament at MU basketball court.
Manipur University beat Biramangol College 28-10 to enter the final. In the women's category, Biramangol College beat G.P. Women's College 19-0 while Manipur University got a walkover to Manipur College, to enter the final.
