Three more held for poll threat

Three more persons, including Independent candidate H. Lalsangzuala, have been arrested yesterday for their alleged involvement in the abduction of three Mizoram Assembly election candidates from the Suangpuilawn constituency on November 19. A senior police officer said 14 people have been arrested so far. he Hmar People’s Convention (Democratic) had allegedly given a single bullet to each party unit president of the constituency with the warning that if Lalsangzuala did not win the election, the bullets would be used to kill them.

Mon rally

The people of Wakching, Mon and Naginimora will protest on Wednesday against the factional fights in Mon district between the NSCN (I-M) and the Khaplang group. One person was shot dead on November 19 in Naginimora after being mistaken to be an NSCN (I-M) cadre by suspected NSCN (K) militants, police sources said. Several non-government organisations, including the Konyak Union, will participate in the peace rallies.

Expo deferred

The Dimapur enterprise development expo, organised by the North East Chamber and Commerce and Industry (NECCI) and scheduled to begin on Friday, has been postponed to December 15. The decision had to be taken due to clash of dates with another expo organised by a youth organisation.

Id greetings

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi has conveyed his best wishes to the people of the state, particularly the followers of Islam, on the occasion of Id-ul Fitr. Gogoi hoped that the festival would strengthen peace, goodwill and brotherhood.

Computer centre

The 36th centre of the Computer Education Centre opened at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district. Budheswar Gogoi, principal of Gogamukh HS School, inaugurated the new centre.

Youth function

The Army School, Tezpur, organised a youth parliament recently. Current issues, including defence lapses in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast, were discussed at the two-hour question hour session.

Drug haul

Two persons were arrested with one kg of heroin from Kangpokpi in Manipur's Senapati district, sources said today. The duo, arrested on Monday, were identified as Lunkholet and Doukhopao Vaiphei.
