NEDFi gets new chief

Kashi Nath Hazarika has recently joined as the new chairman and managing director of North Eastern Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NEDFi). Hazarika, a top executive grade officer of the State Bank of India, had served as an adviser to the North Eastern Council and the ministry of home affairs. He was also deputed for special assignments in the SBI?s New York, Los Angeles and Chicago branches.

Encounter

Three Ulfa cadres including two women were killed on Thursday in an encounter with a joint team of police and the Central Reserve Police Force at Bodolonipur village.

Surrender

Ten Ulfa militants of Dhubri and Kokrajhar districts laid down arms at Panbari, Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, army camp in Dhubri on on Thursday.

Accident

Sixteen-year-old Napolean Gogoi was killed and two others were injured in a road accident in Dibrugarh on Thursday morning. Police said Gogoi was driving his bike at a breakneck speed when he rammed into the three persons in the morning.

Infiltrators

The Border Security Force (BSF) has arrested eight Bangaldeshis including a six-year-old child in Cachar. The infiltrators were taken into custody when they were trying to sneak across the border along Amtala village near Chandinagar checkpost of the BSF.

Hearing ends

The hearing on the petitions filed by Assam Rifles challenging the Manipur government?s decision to constitute Justice Upendra Commission to enquire into the death of Manorama Devi concluded before the Gauhati High Court on Thursday.

Physiotherapy

A public health awareness programme on physiotherapy was held at Bongaigaon Refinery Petrochemicals Ltd recently.

Section 144

The district magistrate of Ri-Bhoi district has promulgated Section 144 CrPC that prohibits any body from selling, purchasing and carrying petrol jerry cans throughout the district.
