Manager killed in accident

Manager of the Diffolo Tea Estate in Golaghat district Sanjay Sablok and his driver, Kamal Baruah, were killed when their Ambassador collided head-on with a bus at Sonapur on Sunday night. aruah died on the spot, while Sablok succumbed at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital. Sablok’s security guard has been hospitalised. Sablok is survived by his wife and two children.

HSLC results

The Secondary Education Board, Assam (SEBA) will announce the results of the High School Leaving Certificate Examination and the High Madarsa examination, 2004, on Tuesday. The results will be available at the district headquarters and the examination centres at 11 am, an official said.

Bandh peaceful

The 12-hour Kokrajhar bandh, called by the All Bodo Students Union (Absu) in protest against the killing of the headman of the Bodopur village by suspected NDFB militants on Saturday, passed off peacefully. Normal life was affected as all business establishments and educational institutes remained closed. Atten-dance at offices was thin.

Minister’s plea

Assam minister for hill areas development G.C. Langthasa and chief executive member of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council Purnendu Langthasa have appealed for transparency in administration in the interest of the government and the people.

Speaker verdict

Assam Speaker Prithvi Majhi on Monday reserved verdict on whether to accept an AGP application seeking disqualification of its two legislators — Ali Akbar Mian and Abdul Jabbar — under the anti-defection law as the plea was submitted after the expiry of the stipulated period of a month.

ONGC strike

The 72-hour ONGC bandh, called by the All Assam Students Union, on Monday paralysed work at the company’s eastern region business group office in Sivasagar. The bandh, which began at 5 am, was called in protest against the alleged move of the company to call tenders from Maruti and Reliance groups for drilling operations.

DC office

Bodoland Territorial Council chief Hangrama Mohilary inaugurated the office of the deputy commissioner (DC) of the newly-created Baksa district in Mushalpur on Monday. A.U. Mazumdar has been appointed the Baksa DC.
