Air officer visits Arunachal

Air officer commanding-in-chief of Eastern Air Command, Air Marshal A.D. Joshi, visited the forward military units in Arunachal Pradesh, bordering China. Air Marshal Joshi, accompanied by his wife, on a two-day visit to the state, also called on Arunachal Pradesh governor, S.K. Singh.

Mass rally

The Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind will hold a mass rally in Guwahati on Sunday and hand over a nine-point charter of demands to the state government.

NRI aid

A US-based non-resident Indians? body, the Global Council of Indian Christians, has drawn up a plan to set up the first medical college and hospital in Mizoram as part of its social welfare chore.

Abduction

Suspected NLFT militants on Wednesday abducted a trader, Kaptan Bhuyan, from Loyarpuia area of Karimganj district. The abductors, according to police, have asked for a ransom of Rs 400,000.

Award

Writer Promod Chandra Bhattacharya was conferred the second Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award at a function at Tulungapuri in Kokrajhar on Thursday.

Allegation

The Assam government has instructed the deputy commissioners and subdivisional officers of the state to verify allegations made against treasury officers and officials regarding illegal demands, wilful delay and raising avoidable objections while passing bills during the financial year ending.

Committee

The Indian Union Muslim League president G.M. Banat Walla has approved the formation of the Indian Union Muslim League Assam State Committee, under the presidentship of Faiznur Ali and M.U. Mondal as general secretary.

Rural funds

The Union rural development ministry has sanctioned Rs 108.54 crore as second instalment of central assistance for Sampoorna Gramin Rozgar Yojana for payment as grants-in-aid to 23 district of Assam.
