Injured Ulfa rebel held Absu sit-in Donation Special trains

Silchar, June 29: A group of criminals on Monday raided Thapa Basti, a Dimasa village nearly 15km from Maibong sub-division in North Cachar Hills, injuring the village headman Rabi Narayan Langthasa. Police said the criminals opened fire in the village at random, injuring the headman. He was rushed to Maibong civil hospital. This is the third attack on the village in the past two months.

Ulfa rebel held

Guwahati: An Ulfa militant, Dwipen Bailung, was apprehended by a joint team of the army and Sivasagar police from Geleky Lahon village on Monday. Police said Dwipen had joined the Ulfa in 2006. He hails from Borholla Khonikar village under Hawalating police station in Sivasagar district.

Absu sit-in

Kokrajhar: Braving heavy morning showers, hundreds of students, led by the influential All Bodo Students Union (Absu) on Monday, staged a three-hour sit-in in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here demanding a solution to the problems in Bodo medium educational institutions. The student union also threatened to launch rigorous agitation if the problem is not solved immediately.

Donation

Kokrajhar: The BTC Deficit College Forum on Monday donated Rs 2 lakh to the BTC chief’s relief fund. Forum president Rupum Brahma and secretary Ratreswar Debnath handed over the amount to BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary in his office chamber at the BTC secretariat here.

Special trains

Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway on Monday decided to extend the running of three short-distance trains for six months from Wednesday. The three trains are Rangiya-Rangapara special train, Guwahati-Mariani special train and Alipurduar-Lumding special train.
