Golaghat, Aug. 29: Tension prevailed again at Merapani along the Assam-Nagaland border following a notice yesterday, purportedly by Mekirang village council, to Gaurbasti residents on the Assam side asking for tax to be paid to the council for cultivating on “Nagaland land”. Dibrugarh: The Sadou Asom Muttock Yuba Chatra Sanmilan will stage a 36-hour sit-in in front of Oil India Limited field headquarters at Duliajan in the district to protest the non-fulfilment of various demands of the sanmilan. Dhubri: The army recovered a pistol and a motorcycle from the banks of Bhola rivulet in Udalguri district on Tuesday. The rider and pillion both fled, leaving behind the pistol and bike when the army patrolling the area tried to stop them, police said. Dhubri: A herd of 20 elephants has created havoc in villages along the Assam-Meghalaya border in Kamrup and Goalpara districts since the past couple of days. The herd entered Rani forest in Kamrup district and damaged crops and houses on Wednesday.
