DoNER survey

Jorhat, Oct. 10: A central team comprising DoNER secretary J. Chandra and chairman of Inland Waterways Authority of India Bhupinder Singh today visited Majuli. Assam transport commissioner Swapnanil Baruah also accompanied the team, which made a preliminary survey for better communication between the island and Jorhat.

Bike theft

Jorhat: Two youths, Bijit Gogoi and Pal Gogoi, were arrested by a police patrol party near the Bhogdoi bridge here on Sunday night. The two confessed that they had stolen two bikes from Borigaon a few days ago and sold them at Naginimara.

AASU visit

Jorhat: A delegation led by AASU general secretary Tapan Kumar Gogoi on Monday visited Merapani along the Assam-Nagaland border in Golaghat district.

Court order

Jorhat: The court of additional district and session judge, Dibrugarh, on Monday rejected the interim bail plea petition filed by David Pegu, a faculty member and one of the accused in the violence that occurred in the Assam Medical College and Hospital on September 28.

Kokrajhar: A plantation drive was carried out by the 315 Fieldegiment (KARGIL) of Red Horns Artillery Brigade with the members of the Kharupetia Marwari Yuva Munch at Kharupetia in Darrang district Sunday. Variety of trees were panted across the army campus at Kharupetia. The plantation drive by the soldiers would continue at other places at Darrang and Udalguri, where the unit is conducting anti-militancy operations.
